Thomas Hardy Feels That Edgon Heath, The Setting Of The Novel The Retu
Thomas Hardy feels that Edgon Heath, the setting of the novel The Return of the Native is a powerful, scary, dark and dreary place. He uses various techniques to express this attitude. Some of the techniques he used to convey this thought are diction, imagery, syntax, and tone. The diction he choose was specific and concrete, presenting an actual place that was depressing. The words he used attempted to present a specific, concrete perception of things. Such as when he writes, "approaching the time of twilight and the vast tract of unenclosed ild known as Egdon Heath embrowned itself moment by moment". This presents a specific place, time and a specific insight which leaves with the thought of a darkening, scary place. Imagery played a very important role in Harding's portrayal of the heath as a powerful, scary, live place. The imagery develops a light and dark imagery. The heath, earth is the dark and gloomy image, while the surrounding nature is light and good. He refers to the heath's color as, "embrowned itself moment by moment," and says that the"hollow stretch of whitish cloud shutting over the sky." He refers to the heath as dark on many occasions, he says the "earth with the darkest vegetation... In such contrast the heath wore the appearance of an installment of night... darkness had to a great extent arrived hereon... the heath exhaling darkness." These references of the heath as dark, give us a gloomy, somber feel of the heath. Harding also uses metaphors to make us aware of the power and life that Edgon Heath has. As in when he says "the face of the heath by its mere complexion added half an hour to evening... the place became full of a watchful intentness now: for when other things sank brooding to a sleep the heath appeared slowly to awake and listen." These metaphors and personifications allow us to see that the heath is more than a hunk of dirt, it has a life and energy. Syntax is also used to enhance the power of the heath. Harding uses a combination of medium length and long and involved length sentences. These lengths enhance the feeling of power that Harding wants to express, because they are lengthy and have a body. They aren't short and quick, each sentence says what it has to say and delivers it. These sentence exemplifies the strength and ability that the heath has. The sentence length is effective because each sentence allows Harding to go into detail about a specific detail about the heath, such as the power and strength it has. Harding also used more than 6 compound sentences in the description of the heath. This is so he can elaborate on a specific characteristic of the heath, as in "The face of the heath by its mere complexion added half an hour to evening: it could in like manner retard the dawn, sadden noon, anticipate the frowning of storms scarcely generated, and intensify the opacity of a moonless night to a cause of shaking and dread...." Harding also used it to compare the heath as in, "Looking upwards, a furze- cutter would have been inclined to continue work; looking down, he would have decided to finish his faggot and go home. The tone of the description of the heath is morose, somber and gloomy. In the description, Harding only describes the heath as dark and scary. He chooses to illustrate these things and gives the story a morose feeling. His somber and gloomy tone is reflected in his attitude toward the heath. The tone makes the heath appear seem scarier and more powerful. Thomas Hardy delivers a powerful and firm attitude towards Edgon Heath. He feels that it is a dark, scary and living place. He uses and combines various literary techniques in order to achieve his goal of convey his feelings towards the heath to his readers.

He had very little self confidence and met many unstable relationships and friendships and bounced around from job to job. Van Gogh was born on March 30th, 1853, his mother was Anna Cornelia Carbentus and his father was Reverend Theodorus van Gogh. His father was the reverend of the protestant church in Groot-Zundert, Holland. He had three sisters Elisabeth, Anna and Wil, he also had two brothers Theo and Cor. After leaving the mi ners, with the push of his brother Theo, van Gogh became a painter. He was met with resistance by his own doubt and the doubt of his parents. His brother supported him morally and finically. When van Gogh began painting he had no formal training or open artistic talent. With the help of being pushed by Theo, Vincent van Gogh would become one of the most famous painters of his time. He evolved from this self doubting young man to a brilliant, but troubled, mind. He broke off the relationship and soon moved to Drenthe following Mauve and other artists of the time, he lost interest there and moved back home to his parents. Van Gogh during his time home tried to model his works after the famous French artist Jean-Franqois Millet. Millet was famous for his paintings of peasant life. He began to master weathered features of his peasant subjects. This was his way of showing the hard commoners life doing manual labor. In 1885 van Gogh decided to enroll in an art academy in Antwerp. He learned about Peter Paul Rubens an various Japanese artists which influenced his future work immensely. Theo and Vincent moved in together in Paris in early 1886 where he was immersed in the modern art from impressionism and post impressionism. Van Gogh used the bright pallet and dropped the his older darker pallet and researched the Japanese style of art. Vincent and Paul Gauguin, who he met in Paris, moved to Arles in 1888. Around this time van Goghââ¬â¢s mental illness began to take hold. He chased Gauguin around with a knife and later that same day he cut his ear off. Person-Centred Approaches in Health and Social Care Coursework
Person-Centred Approaches in Health and Social Care - Coursework Example I was careful not to force the patient into taking my decisions rather allowed him to make his own decisions on whether he wanted the treatment or not. I also used equitable allocation of personal resources towards my patient. I had to highlight to him the risk associated with his ailment, and of the different choices he would select for or against the treatment process. I had to identify the key priorities for the patient so as not to deliver person-centered care due to lack of time. I had to compromise with the patients on the different ideas he had about his ailment assuring him that he still had the chance of making amends in his life and returning to his normal life. It was difficult for me, but I was forced to hide my emotions to the patient making the process to consume emotionally. I also applied interproffesional working with the patient as i was forced to consult, network, consult and debate as I wanted to solve some of the problems which I felt that the patient could not s olve when left to make decide.Question 2It is really important to find out an individualââ¬â¢s history, preferences, wishes and needs as some patients consider such things like religion; therefore, they would want to pray at particular times or place. Different patients have different religious objects and when presented with objects which do not relate to his, the feeling of being uncomfortable is developed. Others may want the care process to be handled by individuals related to the sexuality as they may feel shy. during the care process. Language is also an issue that is taken into consideration as a patient under care unit might want to communicate to the person attending to him or her. Question 3 It is important to review care or support plans with the patient and to monitor their needs and preferences because it improves on the self esteem of the patient since they have welcomed the program involved. New or improved source of communication is also achieved in involving patients in the support plan (Rantz & Flesner, 2003). The hospital also creates a good image for it as patients openly exudes confidence in the care plan being administered to them. Question 4 Useful care or support plans are beneficial in supporting person centered values in practice since they give guidelines on how the patient wants the care process to be implemented. They also involve the patient in the care process by covering the full range of needs and preferences by providing documented evidence of the process. In addition, they provide an opportunity to monitor and review the ever changing needs of the patient. Lastly, they describe, predict and explain the control phenomenon used for the care process (Rantz & Flesner, 2003). Question 5 Case Study One I will advice the colleague that the different factors that might hinder a patient from expressing his views are mental impairment, physical illness or language barriers

International Economic- WTO Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words
International Economic- WTO - Essay Example The most important round of negotiations in the history of WTO was the Uruguay Round in 1986 which resulted in significant agreement on negotiation topics. The meeting before that in 1982 had resulted in deadlock over agriculture issues. The Uruguay Round resulted in an agreement over ââ¬Ëa negotiating agendaââ¬â¢ which covered all the trade policy issues required to be discussed (World Trade Organization, 2010). Over the years, the WTOââ¬â¢s agenda has had to expand from just an agreement on trade terms to include issues related to regionalism, intellectual property, services, the environment, investment, electronic commerce and labour standards (World Trade Organization, 2010).1 ââ¬ËBalance-of-payments exceptionââ¬â¢: developing countries were allowed to have less stringent terms in tariff conditions and they were allowed to protect their markets to some level because of the special status to protect them. ââ¬Ëexports subsidiesââ¬â¢: WTO promotes the elimination of export subsidies in agriculture in order to have free competitive market conditions in global agricultural trade. The implementation of this clause is more one-sided and it is the developed countries that specifically demand the elimination of export subsidies in developing countries; and ââ¬Ëdomestic supportââ¬â¢: developed countries are promoting the elimination of all other forms if domestic support besides export subsidies that challenge the free competitive market conditions. (World Trade Organization, 2010) The latest agreement on the agriculture front is laid out in August 2007. According to these agreements, in developed countries, there was to be a reduction in tariff and a calculation of the Ad Valorem Equivalent (AEV) tariff. 4-6% of the tariff could be proclaimed for sensitive products. It was also agreed that there was a necessity to ââ¬Ëformulate an adequate solution for tariff escalationââ¬â¢. Tax simplification was another clause of the 2007 Draft

We now need to look at what the future has in store for us. Its a serious time, a time to look at what path our lives are going to take once the caps and gowns are taken off. High school was an important step in our lives but it was only a step. So we must strive to educate ourselves and work to our best abilities to become strong individuals. But these struggles that we wen through will help us to be able to handle things in the real world. We all went through struggles and hardships but we all got to remember that someone went thro ugh more struggles than we did. I remember this friend that walked to school at 6:45 in the morning so that he could make it to Yearbook O period; while it was still dark outside. Then his junior year he got a job and to be able to make to work on time he would have to run from school to the mile away bus stop so that he would be able to get a car. And after saving his paychecks for four months he was able to get a car. I was proud of him for going through hardships and his family was proud too. On graduation night we all must remember the friendships that we had through the times. Even if they were bad or good we all can learn something from them. We can remember those friends that weââ¬â¢ve had since freshmen year and those friends that we just met but have become our best of friends. Bob is a very difficult client for therapists because he becomes so attached to people. He drove away his first therapist and caused his second one, Dry. Marvin, to go insane. Although Bob is annoying to be around and causes problems for some people, he also helps people Marvin tried numerous times to teach Saggy how to dive into the lake but he was unsuccessful.Bob tried to teach Saggy how to dive and he was successful. While trying to teach him how to dive, Bob realized that he is afraid of docks and water and diving into the water. Bobs fears make Saggy want to teach him that it's not that scary. So while showing Bob how to dive, Saggy Inadvertently teaches himself to not be scared and he couldn't have done it without Bob. Bob also brought Joy to Dry. Margin's family. Although, Dry. Marvin was not very fond of Bob, Bob made the Marvin family happy and helped them to really enjoy their vacation because of his personality. He brought Joy to them because they all came togethe r and kind of took Bob in and took care of him; he was like another child in the family. Dry. Margin's wife enjoyed Bob's resend so much that she invited him to stay for dinner and then sleepover their house one night. Dry. Margin's daughter also enjoyed Bob's presence so much that she invited him to hangout with her and her friends on their sailboat. Despite Mr.. Marvin hating him, Bob helps him in a few ways. The first way Bob helps Dry. Marvin is during dinner one night. Dry. Marvin is choking on food and Bob saves him by giving him the Heimlich.Although this really has nothing to do with Bob's disorder it still shows that he can do good things for the people around him. Bob also helped Dry. Marvin with his interview on Good Morning America. Bob was originally not supposed to be in the interview but because of his attachment to Dry. Marvin he got himself on the show. At first Dry. Marvin thought that this was an awful idea but soon that proved to be wrong. Dry. Marvin froze up an d didn't know what to say while Bob, posing as Dry. Margin's patient, talks very highly of the Dry. Margin's book and talks about how good of a therapist he is. Bob's presence on this show really helped Dry.Marvin look really good to everyone. Both of these movies present us with characters that have pretty severe disorders in their respective spectrums of severity. These movies show us how their disorders really make daily life difficult for them and others surrounding them. While showing the bad sides of their disorders these movies also show their good sides and what they can offer to the world and everyone around them. I have grown up with and around people with disorders and disabilities and I know for a fact that each person, even with a disorder, can contribute something special and unique to the world.
